Karla Guzman-Mims , Class of 2008

For more than 15 years, Karla Guzmân-Mims has been involved in community organizing and public relations through her work in the human services, non-profit, and government sectors. Most recently, she worked for the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation as the Grantmaking Program Manager where she developed and implemented qualitative assessments of the Commonwealth’s uninsured populations. Prior to this position, Karla served as the Director of Administration and Special Projects for former State Senator Jarrett T. Barrios. At the State House, Karla worked closely with state legislators and statewide advocacy groups to strategize and promote the Tuition Parity Bill. Originally from Costa Rica, Karla holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Massachusetts, Boston and is currently working towards a Master's degree in Public Administration from the University of South Florida in Tampa. Karla married and moved to the Tampa Bay area in the summer of 2008.
