Maria Gonzalez, Class of 2008
Born and raised in Valencia, Spain, María González earned a dual degree in Communications and Broadcasting and German studies at the University of Valencia. During her tenure at the University, Maria spent a semester abroad in Germany, where she studied at Bremen University and worked part time as a German, English and Latin teacher. In 2001, Maria moved to Madrid to study Journalism at the University Carlos III, after which she was offered a prestigious scholarship by the local government to be an intern in a publication company. Within a week, Maria was hired permanently and became the editor of several fashion magazines, offering her the opportunity to travel internationally. Seeking a way back to her real passion for political journalism, Maria applied for a graduate program in Political Science and International Relations at Suffolk University in Boston. Upon graduation, she began work as an associate editor for the Hispanic newspaper “El Mundo” and a few months later was hired as a news reporter by the Spanish language TV Channel, Univision. In 2007, Maria became the producer, writer and anchor of “Despierta Boston”.
