Mushtaque Mirza, Class of 2008

Born in India, of Persian ancestry, Mushtaque came to the United States to pursue his studies in Engineering and has lived in Cambridge since 1973. A Diplomat Environmental Engineer by profession he was awarded "Exemplary Public Employee" award by Governor Cellucci of Massachusetts on June 3, 1998. Mushtaque is passionate about environmental, labor and community issues. He is a trustee of the Massachusetts Organization of State Engineers & Scientists, among other civic and professional Civil/Environmental engineering societies. Mushtaque is a Chair of the Cambridge Democratic City Committee Ward 4 and a member of the Democratic State Committee. In 2004, he was elected to be vice president of the Massachusetts Electoral College. Mushtaque also promotes interfaith dialogues about peace through the Cambridge Peace Commission, works on voter registration and creating greater political awareness in his community. Dedicated to core democratic values, Mushataque is a tireless advocate for a clean environment, ethnic diversity and human rights.
