Selvin Chambers III, Class of 2008
Selvin Chambers III currently serves as the Director of Youth Development & Family Services for the city of Boston’s Centers for Youth & Families (BCYF). As Director, he oversees BCYF Leadership Development Programs, Family Support Services, City Roots Alternative High School, and Year Round Programs for pre teens. Selvin is a public spokesperson on youth related issues across the city. Prior to joining the Boston Centers for Youth & Families, Selvin held key positions in various organizations throughout the country. He has served as the Division Head for the Cambridge Youth Programs, Deputy Director at City Year Chicago, Program Manager for Hands on Atlanta, Information Manager for the United States Olympic Committee and has served as a City Year Program Director in Boston, Columbia (South Carolina), Columbus (Ohio), and San Antonio (Texas). Selvin served on the US Human Rights Commission from 1996-1998 and is the founder of the Sports Leadership Academy, the Youth Serving Youth Leadership conference, and the Cambridge Youth Programs Leadership Program. A native of Cambridge, MA, Selvin received his Bachelors of Science in Sociology from Fitchburg State College and is presently taking graduate courses at Boston University. Selvin played point guard for the Fitchburg State college basketball team and is still an avid basketball player and volunteer basketball coach.
